Cross-asset correlation
How stocks, bonds, the dollar and commodities move together.
How to read it
Each cell is the correlation of two assets' daily returns over the window, from +1 (they move together) to −1 (they move in opposite directions). Stocks and bonds moving apart is the classic hedge; when they start moving together, a balanced portfolio loses its cushion.
Six more assets can be switched on: Nasdaq 100, Euro Stoxx 50, high yield bonds (HYG), the euro, copper and bitcoin. Pick a date to see the window that ended then. Rolling follows the first asset switched on against each of the others, over a trailing window the length of the range.
