You, in the marketYou, soldHolding on

How it works

You hold $10,000 at the last high before one of the great falls of the market you pick: every fall of 25% or more on record. You are not told which. The chart moves forward one trading day at a time, for three years. Sell when you can't take any more and buy back when you are ready, as often as you like.

Your rival is holding on: the same $10,000, never sold. At the end you see what your decisions cost or earned, how deep the fall went and how long the market took to regain its high.

Returns follow the same rules as the Trading Simulator: the S&P 500 with dividends, the other markets prices only; money out of the market earns a flat 2% a year.

Keys: space to sell or buy back, P to pause, 1 to 4 for the speed. For information and education only. Not investment advice.
